Our newly-established high school division is embracing the Class of 2023, our soon-to-be high school graduates. This autumn, the Career and University Guidance (CUG) team at SUIS Qingpu continues its strong support for our students as they research potential careers and prepare for their eventual applications to university. So, what has the CUG team been up to in this new semester?

首先，十一年级的同学们本学期开始每周有一节升学指导课。课堂上，升学指导老师会向同学们系统地讲解不同国家和地区的大学和不同专业的申请该如何进行准备。 除此之外，针对一些升学相关的话题，比如标准化考试规划、英国本科嵌入式实习模式等，升学指导团队还邀请校外的专家来到校园为同学们进行分享。 与此同时，还面对面为十一年级的家长们解读了本学年的升学指导详细工作计划，并回答了家长们的相关提问。

Starting this semester, Grade 11 students have been participating in a weekly CUG class. During the classes, CUG counsellors have been instructing students how to prepare admission applications to universities in different countries around the world, and students have also learned about the various majors and courses that they can engage with. In addition, the CUG team provided students with information related to planning for standardized testing and work placement ‘sandwich’ years at UK universities. External experts were invited to the campus to share their experiences with the students, and an information session was held for our Grade 11 parents detailing the career and university guidance plan for this academic year.

其次，在家长茶会上，我们向家长们分别分享了不同年级的升学时间规划。在低年级阶段，同学们应当确立良好的在校成绩和学习习惯，同时探索自己的学科兴趣和专业/职业方向，较多地参与课外活动；十一年级则是升学准备最为关键的一年，需要在保持良好成绩的同时，确定大学申请名单和专业方向，并开始申请文书的写作；十二年级时需要完成大学的申请，并做好从高中过渡到大学校园的准备。

During tea meetings with the parents, the CUG team shared the school’s curriculum for career and university preparation. Grade 10 students should establish and maintain good grades and habits, determine the careers they are interested in, explore the majors/courses at university they would like to take, and participate in extra-curricular activities. In Grade 11, the most critical year for university admissions preparation, students will be expected to select their universities and majors/courses and draft their university application essays, all while improving scores and/or maintaining high scores. In the first semester of Grade 12, students will have completed their university applications, and soon thereafter, will begin to prepare for the transition from high school to life at university.

We were delighted to welcome to the campus representatives from three top UK universities: Durham University, the University of Warwick, and the University of Exeter. The guests introduced their universities, the courses they offer, their admission requirements, and then spoke with parents and students one-to-one in order to provide individualized guidance.

九月末，来自协和七所高中校区的升学指导老师们还一起前往曼彻斯特大学中国中心进行了三小时的参观和学习。学习内容既包括了对学生们有用的曼大本科申请要求，也有对老师们自己有用的曼大教育领导力硕士项目；另外，相关同行专家还为老师们介绍了ACT大学入学考试和一个为美加留学生提供实习和求职机会的项目。

At the end of September, CUG counsellors from seven different SUIS high school campuses met at the China Centre of the University of Manchester site for a three-hour visit and learning session. The counsellors not only learned about the university’s undergraduate admissions requirements and other information helpful for our students, but also about their Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership in Practice programme, a course very beneficial to counsellors and educators. In addition, industry experts introduced the ACT, a university admissions test, and a programme offering internship and work opportunities for Chinese students studying in the US and Canada.

The CUG team will continue to provide strong support to our students' career and university plans and preparations. In October, a high school parent will be providing a career lecture for the students, and more visits from other top universities will occur, namely the University of the Arts London and the University of Glasgow.
