Welcome to the latest episode of SHTCS Morning Meeting Broadcast. The two themes addressed at the sharing session are ‘dangers of smoking’ and ‘Xinjiang Cotton Event’.

学生分享：吸烟的危害Student-Sharing: Dangers of Smoking
本次晨会由十年级的杨卓然、袁筱烁两位同学主持，首先请出同班的段景元、顾纯玮分享讲述了“吸烟的危害”。
The morning meeting was hosted by Zhuoran and Cindy from Grade 10. They invited classmates Jonathan and James to give a speech about ‘the harm of smoking’.
演讲从一个“灵魂拷问”开始：Have you ever smoked?
The speech was started with a soul-searching question ‘Have you ever smoked?’
演讲从化学和生物学的角度谈到了吸烟的危害，比如提到电子烟的主要成分是尼古丁盐、新尼古丁X和烟碱，这些都是替代尼古丁的成分，但其成瘾性的本质是一样的。
The speech covered the dangers of smoking from a chemical and biological point of view. It mentioned the main ingredients in e-cigarettes are nicotinate, Nicotine-X and nicotinoids, which are nicotine substitutes. What’s same in essence is they all lead to addiction.
众所周知，任何有组织生物体只要还有生命迹象就必须要呼吸，不吸烟的人，每天都能吸入大量的新鲜空气；而经常吸烟的人，却享受不到大自然的恩惠，吸入的不是新鲜空气，而是被烟雾污染的有毒气体。
It’s known to us all that any biological organisms that have any sign of life must breathe. People who don't smoke can breathe in a lot of fresh air every day, whereas regular smokers do not get to enjoy the benefits of nature and breathe in poisonous gases polluted by smog instead of fresh air.

演讲中还分析了吸烟背后的心理因素：吸烟在很大程度上是一种心理需求、一种习惯和一种心理依赖。调查数据显示，中国吸烟人群的结构和吸烟心态的背后却是贫穷、焦虑以及生存压力，大多也是一种随众心理。
The speech also analyzed the psychological factors behind smoking - it is, to a large extent, a psychological need, a habit and a psychological dependence. Survey data show that poverty, anxiety and survival pressure are behind the structure and smoking mentality of Chinese smokers, and most people fall prey to smoking due to herd mentality.
近些年兴起的电子烟以更多的口味吸引了不少未成年人，他们觉得自己抽烟很酷，进而分享给自己的朋友，从而迫害了更多的未成年人。主持人在最后播放了一段“高藤禁烟大使”曹毅霖主演的禁烟视频，以此呼吁大家珍爱生命，远离尼古丁。
The rise of e-cigarettes in recent years has attracted many minors with more flavors, who think they are cool to smoke and then share with their friends, thus persecuting more minors. The hosts played a smoking-ban video starring Hades, the ‘SHTCS anti-smoking ambassador’, to appeal to students to cherish life and stay away from nicotine.
教师分享：新疆棉事件Teacher-Sharing:
The Xinjiang Cotton Event
本次的教师分享环节，理查（Richard）老师深入浅析地讲解回顾了“新疆棉事件”的来龙去脉。
In the teacher-sharing session, teacher Richard gave an in-depth analysis of the origins and developments of "Xinjiang Cotton Incident".
分享起始，理查老师邀请几位同学上台，现场还原了“新疆棉事件”后发生在校园里的一幕幕：有同学“义正言辞”地指出身边同学不该再穿耐克鞋，而要用新疆棉产品；这些同学的反应也代表了国内民众自发抵制此次“涉事品牌”的情绪。
At the beginning, teacher Richard invited several students to come to the stage and restored some scenes happening in the campus after ‘Xinjiang Cotton Incident’: some students would ‘accuse’ their peers of still wearing Nike shoes and urge them to use Xinjiang cotton products. Their reaction represents the sentiment of Chinese people who joined the spontaneous boycott of the brands involved in this incident
演讲内容没有停留于事件表面，而是深入分析了事件背后的国际地缘政治因素和经济考量。西方对中国的不实指控从战略层面阻碍中巴经济走廊，在意识形态上通过人权话题占领制高点，在经济上打击中国纺织行业的发展。我们要带着怀疑精神，用批判性思维辩证看待整个事件，做到“屁股坐正”（立场端正）、“脑袋自由”（思想自由）！
The speech did not stop at the surface of the event, but carried out an in-depth analysis of the international geopolitical factors and economic considerations behind the event. The false accusations against China were aimed to cause obstruction that interferes with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) from a strategic level, take the ideological high ground through human rights issues and hurt the development of China's textile industry. We should treat the whole matter dialectically with skepticism and critical thinking, so as to keep our hips upright (take a firm stand) and our heads free (think freely).

Mobilization of Business Competitions & Excellence Selections
接下来，Shirley 老师简要介绍了全球金融挑战赛和商业全能挑战赛，动员不同年级的同学根据赛事特点进行选择和报名参加。“全球金融挑战赛”是伦敦金融研究院举办的全球性金融竞赛。商业全能挑战，被授予美国教育部(USED) 和生涯规划教育协会 (CTSO) 官方认证，并由中学校长联盟 (NASSP)推荐，是针对商业管理、财务会计、信息技术等方面全球领先的中学生商科学术活动。
Miss Shirley then briefly introduced two business competitions - Student Investor Challenge and Business Professionals of America, and encouraged students of different grades to choose and sign up according to the competition characteristics. The Student Investor Challenge is a global financial competition organized by the London Institute of of Banking & Finance (LIBF). Certified by the U.S. Department of Education (USED) and the Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), and recommended by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the Business Professionals of America is the world's leading academic activity for high school students in business management, financial accounting, information technology, and more.

同时学生处主任张老师宣告了我们将每两周进行学生与班级评优活动，表彰优秀和有进步的学生与班级。李校在最后针对本次晨会做了总结发言。
Ms Zhang, dean of student Affairs, announced that bi-weekly excellence-selection activities would be held to recognize and commend outstanding students and classes and the ones that have made great progress. Principal Li made a summary speech at the end of the morning meeting.
