耀中耀华的课程专注于发展学生面向21世纪的各种技能，如创造力、批判性思维和沟通能力。

我们也始终致力为学生创设培养其语言技能的机会。去年，耀中耀华课程及专业发展部（CPDD）发起了以“讲述重要的故事 ”为主题的演讲比赛，希望将话筒交予各校区的学生，聆听来自他们内心深处的真实声音。

最终收到的参赛作品涵盖5岁至13年级。通过演讲，学生们分享着关于如何以己之力，作用于一个更好世界的想法。

学生们的演讲包括以下内容：

气候变化的危险，以及我们需要采取的行动

一位被形容为“日常英雄”的祖父

我们每天听到的所谓谎言，以及我们为何会时而选择相信它们

关于心理健康的强有力的议题

9月8日，我们举行了在线演讲比赛颁奖典礼。所有校区聚集在一块，感谢并鼓励交出作品的每一位学生。

美国乔治亚州立大学教授Michelle Zoss博士应邀担任嘉宾评委，与来自香港、上海、青岛、北京、烟台和硅谷的教师一起决定了最终的获奖者。她也围绕如何有效沟通、如何准确表达自己的想法和感受的话题，提出了专业且富有见地的建议。

衷心祝贺我们的每一位获奖者们！我们为所有为比赛付出努力的学生而感到骄傲。耀中耀华双语学习社区也将继续为学生创造机会，在丰富、有趣的活动中，充分展现自己的学习成果。

今年，耀中耀华课程及专业发展部全新活动——耀中耀华双语电影节即将启动。

Whether our YCYW students dream of being surgeons, climate activists, or the next big TikTok star, public speaking competitions are a vibrant opportunity for learning. Our curriculum is always focused on developing students’ 21st century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and communication.

Last year we held the YCYW Speech Competition with the theme “Telling Stories That Matter”. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, this event allowed all students to participate whether they were at home or in school. Our YCYW schools are committed to providing opportunities that nurture the students’ language skills and online learning proved to be no barrier. Entries were received from students ranging from five years of age through to the last year of secondary school. Our YCYW students have important stories to share that can deliver a message of change and make a lasting difference for someone. We want to hear our students’ voices.

Our talented students presented speeches on:

the dangers of climate change and actions we need to take

a grandfather, whom was described as an “everyday hero”

the so-called lies we hear everyday, and how we sometimes want to believe them

the powerful topic of mental health

On 8 September, we held our online Speech Competition Awards Ceremony. It was a wonderful community event hosted by our Curriculum Professional Development Division. All the schools came together to acknowledge the students who shared their stories.

Dr Michelle Zoss, a professor at Georgia State University in the United States, was invited as a guest judge. She offered her words of wisdom on effective communication and expressing thoughts and feelings. Dr Zoss along with teachers from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Qingdao, Beijing, Yantai, and Silicon Valley decided on our winners.

We are so proud of all our students who showed diligence and humility to join the Speech Competition. Our Bilingual Learning Communities strive to provide students with opportunities to show knowledge in creative and holistic ways.

This year the Curriculum Professional Development Division have launched a YCYW Bilingual Film Festival. We cannot wait to see the films and documentaries created by our students!
