万源城协和双语学校美高模拟联合国社是什么情况？模拟联合国 (Model United Nations)，简称模联(MUN)，是对模拟联合国和其它多边机构的仿真学术模拟，是为青年人组织的公民教育活动。在活动中，青年学生们扮演不同国家或其它政治实体的外交代表，参与围绕国际上的热点问题召开的会议。代表们遵循议事规则，在会议主席团的主持下，通过演讲来阐述观点，为了“国家利益”辩论、磋商、游说。他们与友好的国家沟通协作，解决冲突；通过写作决议草案和投票表决来推进国际问题的解决。在模拟联合国，青年学生们通过亲身经历熟悉联合国等多边议事机构的运作方式、基础国际关系与外交知识，并了解世界发生的大事对他们未来的影响，了解自身在未来可以发挥的作用。

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations and other multilateral institutions designed for youth and civilian education. During MUN, students represent different nations, political bodies, or diplomats to discuss international topical issues, following certain guidelines (Roberts Rules, The Hague Rules, etc.) under the guidance of a Chair. Students use speeches to express their opinions and promote their nation’s interests. They cooperate with friendly allies to solve conflicts, write draft resolutions, and conduct votes to push forward solutions to international issues. In Model UN, participants apply their knowledge of United Nations procedures, basic international and diplomatic relations to gain a deeper understanding on what has been impacting our contemporary life, and to find their place in the future world.

SSIMUN于今年11月19日至20日在上海新加坡国际学校举行，这是他们第一次作为东道主举办模拟联合国大会，也是我们第一次作为俱乐部参加模拟联合国大会。比赛本身包括星期六的初级组和星期天的标准组，以适应不同代表对模拟联合国经验的不同水平和要求。在现场，SUIS WY向初学者大会派出了7人的团队，向标准大会派出了4人的团队。

The SSIMUN took place on November 19th and 20th at Shanghai Singapore International School. This was their first year hosting a Model UN conference, and our first Model UN conference participating as a club. The contest itself contained a Beginners division on Saturday and a Standard division on Sunday in order to accommodate different levels of experience. SUIS WY sent out a team of 7 delegates to the Beginners conference, and 4 to the Standard conference.

我们社团对此次会议的准备工作从今年学年初就开始了，每位成员都被要求在开学时直接表明他们的偏好：要么参加，要么不参加。许多人从一开始就表现出了踏入未知领域的勇气，在不具备任何模联知识的情况下接受挑战！在接下来的几周里，俱乐部涵盖了模拟联合国的程序、研究框架、准备过程、文件撰写等，使每位会员对会议有了全面的了解。更重要的是，周五放学后为参与者提供的额外课程指导了策略方面的内容，并就准备过程提供了深入的个人咨询。每个成员参加会议时都有足够的知识来支持他们的辩论。

The preparation for the conference started at the beginning of the school year, where every club member was asked to indicate their preference to take part in the conference or not. Many showed courage to step into the unknown from the start, taking up the challenge when they weren’t equipped with previous knowledge. In the following weeks, the club covered the Model UN procedure, research framework, preparation process, document writing, etc. that fully prepared every member with a well-rounded understanding of the conference as a whole. What's more, extra sessions were and continue to be available for participants after school on Fridays instruct students on strategic aspects and provide in-depth personal advisory on the preparation process. Each member entered the conference with sufficient knowledge to support their debate.

As an experiment, the most important aspect of this experience has never been the conference itself, but an immersive preparatory experience for members to gain a better understanding of what it feels like in a real conference and to succeed in further effort on their Model UN journey. As what is commonly regarded in the Model UN context, "this should be the start, and never the end."

SSIMUN 2022的经历对于我们这整个社团以及每一位成员来说都是不可替代的，因为它标志着社团的第一个里程碑，更不可否认的是我们从其他学校和代表那里学习的经验。SUIS WY模拟联合国社团将继续努力在多个层面提升社团成员，不仅是模拟联合国本身，还包括学术研究、公开演讲、批判性思维和沟通技巧。致力于代表学校在地区以及国家的各个平台上展示我们的努力和成就，并将继续提供一切必要的经验知识。

The SSIMUN 2022 experience is invaluable for the club and each individual member as it marks the first milestone of the club, and an undeniable learning experience from other schools and delegates. The SUIS WY Model UN Club will continue its effort to advance its members on multiple levels, not merely Model UN itself, but academic research, public speaking, critical thinking, and communication skills as well. The club is dedicated to represent the school on regional and national platforms to demonstrate its efforts and accomplishments and will continue to provide the experience for as long as it is needed.

Mr. Robinson:  I was very impressed with the level of commitment from our club members. The dedication and focus from our new members was particularly inspiring. The weekend was filled from beginning to end with almost non-stop learning and personal development. Although this was for many their first MUN experience, everyone demonstrated an ability and willingness to learn quickly, and a resilience and versatility that will take them far in life. Overall, I think we have gained some very important experience that will lead to much success at our next conference.

We're glad that we finally stepped onto a conference representing our school, proud and well-prepared. Going back to the MUN meeting after the entire covid-19 epidemic, I am excited about the delegates' passion for everything in MUN. As a student adviser, I am pleased to see that so many members like the process of working together with colleagues, writing opening speeches, and discussing resolutions. We are optimistic about our upcoming conference in Concordia.

I really appreciate this MUN conference experience. Meeting and corporating with delegates from different campus teams is both a challenge and a thrilling experience. Our proprietor Eric did a fantastic job in training us to be experienced delegates in future conferences and continuously "encouraging" us to make contributive speeches to the entire committee. During this MUN activity, I was able to share my insights with peers with similar fields of interest. As the delegate of my assigned country, I stepped out of my comfort zone, working as an individual concerned about and involved in contemporary issues across the globe instead of being an indifferent bystander.

This is my first time at a formal MUN meeting. With the help of the volunteers and professional guides, I improved a lot in one day’s competition. I saw many leaders leading their bloc to debate, wrote resolutions, and discuss the contents of the paper. All those hard works touched me a lot. That’s a precious experience to take part in this conference!
