At the start of the 2021-2022 school year, we would like to introduce to you five of last year’s outstanding graduates. Learning from their experience and ambition, we are confident this year’s students will achieve even greater things, as they stand on the shoulders of giants.

如何评价世青的教学水平？

How would you summarise the teaching and learning at BWYA?  

如果用一个词形容，那就是 “精益求精”。在压力最大、最艰难的DP阶段，世青仍为学生提供优质的教学。回望过去，世青一直致力于带给学生有意义而难忘的学习体验。我可以肯定地说：从六年级入学开始，一直到即将离校的DP阶段，我的身边总是不乏良师陪伴。  

每一步都走得踏实而坚定，并不断朝着正确的方向前进——这就是世青和世青学子能取得成功的秘诀。如今，随着世青拥有了全新的校园，我相信在校生会更享受在这里求学的时光，并在未来取得更好的成绩！ 

Committed to excellence. BWYA, especially in the most stressful part of school – DP, provided excellent teaching, even during these difficult times. Looking back, BWYA has been continuously working on improving the learning experience for all students. I can – without a doubt – say that my teachers in Grade 6 were great, just as they were in DP.  

Taking the right steps, and moving in the right direction is what leads to the success of students at BWYA, and the school itself. And now, as BWYA has a brand-new campus, students are likely to enjoy their time here even more, and achieve even greater results!  

国际化教育带给你最大的收获是什么？ 

What have you gained the most from an international education?  

MYP和DP阶段的学习鼓励学生打开视野，升维思考。因为IB课程体系的各项评估任务要求我们结合课堂学习内容，寻找现实生活中的示例与应用。我个人非常喜欢这样的学习模式，因为不需要去盲目地死记硬背各种知识点。对我来说，更重要的是去探寻学习本身的意义和真正地理解事实与定义背后的内容—— 比如 “为什么”、“怎么做”、“原因和目的” 以及 “何种程度”等等。 

作为年轻、充满热情的青年，当面前各式各样的 “机会之门”打开时，其实大部分人很容易眼花缭乱地对不同的事物产生兴趣。然而过去这几年，在世青的学习让我意识到为人生制定 “优先事项”尤为重要——比如去了解什么是必不可少的，什么又是最适合自己的。 

The MYP and DP encourage one to think outside a narrow scope. Assessment tasks almost universally require one to seek real-life examples and applications of what was learned in class. I enjoy learning without the need to blindly memorise facts and definitions. It is essential for me to arrive at a point where I genuinely understand ‘why’, ‘how’, ‘for what purpose’, or sometimes ‘to what extent’. 

Being fuelled with youthful enthusiasm and having so many doors open in front of you, it might be tempting to overcommit to a bunch of different things. What I learned in the past few years, is that it is crucial to set priorities for yourself and understand what is essential, and what is right for you.

生活中，谁是给予你最多鼓舞的人？ 

Who is the most inspiring person in your life? 

我认识的每一个人都有独特的闪光点。在一些同学身上，我特别欣赏其中的几个特质，比如坚持不懈，或是抗压及沟通能力等等。而世青的老师也给予了我很多学术之外的帮助和鼓励。例如，Ms. Helen 经常耐心地辅导我，即使我总是忘记同样的知识点；Dr. Chuck 好像每天都充满了能量，教室里总会出现新的科学项目与实验；Mr. Ambler 似乎具有超乎常人的时间管理能力，工作起来从不知疲倦；而Mr. Haggar特别善于和学生建立信任，他让每一个充满压力的早晨都变得明亮起来。当然，还有很多未提及的老师和同学也让我十分欣赏。所以， “给予我最多鼓舞”的从来就不是一个人，而是一群人。 

I think I admire unique qualities in most people I’ve met. For example, in my classmates, I admire certain characteristics in each of them: perseverance, consistency under pressure, the ability to talk to others easily, etc.  The teachers at BWYA are also some of the best people I’ve met and they have skills I learn from beyond the academics. For example, I’m inspired by Ms Helen’s ability to remain so patient even when I kept forgetting the same exact thing. Dr Chuck never runs out of energy and keeps adding new projects to his classroom, Mr Ambler seems to have inhuman time management skills tirelessly working away, and Mr Haggar always connects with his students so easily and can make a very stressful morning at school better somehow. There are a lot of other teachers and students at BWYA who I haven’t got to mention but it has been very inspiring in different ways, so I really can’t pick one person to be the ‘most inspiring’.

世青如何帮助你成长为一个全面发展的个体？ 

How have you grown as a well-rounded person at BWYA?

除了学术方面，我最大的收获是学会了如何演讲和辩论。这种收获不仅仅只是因为我掌握了公开演讲和辩论的技巧，最重要的是自信心和沟通能力的提升，以及在任何公众场合或舞台上具备有效地表达自己的能力。除此之外，我认为自己全面发展的另一个证明是我对各类学科都很感兴趣，且能够很好地平衡自己的学术、爱好和社交生活。 

My biggest non-academic learning has been speech and debate. Other than public speaking and debating skills, I developed self-confidence and communication skills, and I can convey my ideas effectively in public or on stage. I feel well-rounded due to my interest in various subjects, and being able to balance my academics with my interests and my social life. 

关于如何利用好在校时间，你对学弟学妹们有何建议？ 

How would you encourage younger students to make the best of their time here?  

我强烈建议在校生多参与各种俱乐部活动，挑战自己并学习新知。在这个过程中不断地开发潜能，争取有一天能够开设自己的俱乐部。 

I would strongly encourage younger students to join clubs they are interested in, and challenge themselves to learn new skills in those clubs, so they could push their abilities and become club leaders in the future.

为何选择前往美国深造？ 

What attracted you to apply to American universities? 

相比于其他国家，最吸引我的是美国大学的通识教育体系，它有点像IBDP的体系，要求学生在前两年尽量涉猎多个领域和学科——比如学生可以自由选修各种类型的课程。虽然我主攻生物，但这种鼓励学生尝试新方向和挑战未知的教育理念让我非常欣赏。 

Compared to colleges of other countries, one thing I particularly like about American universities is their liberal arts education system. It’s a little bit similar to the IBDP program. It asks students to study subjects from almost every area, while at the same time, it offers students a broad range of subjects to choose from. Even though I like Biology very much, I also like the education system of the US that encourages trying new subjects and areas that you were not familiar with before. 

为什么埃默里大学成为你的ED？ 

Why did you choose Emory University as your ED?

Emory University最吸引我的一点是小班教学，它也是格外注重通识教育的美国大学之一。当初选校时，我希望找到一所既具备文理学院的优点，又同时拥有综合性大学的科研机会的院校。除此之外，我希望专攻的生物和医学也是Emory University的强势专业。 

When I was choosing schools to apply to I was hoping to find a college with a strong emphasis on liberal arts education, whilst also having many research opportunities as a big university. Plus, Emory has a really strong Biology and medicine program.

如何选课？对即将进入DP阶段的在校生有何建议？ 

How did you choose your courses? What are your suggestions for the lower grade students who are about to enter the DP stage?   

DP阶段选课时，我非常认真谨慎地考虑哪些学科是我真正感兴趣和热爱的领域。因为很确定自己希望把商科或社会学作为大学的专业，所以选课时我毫不犹豫的选择了经济学。而对于其他课程，我则主动向老师咨询，并了解大学申请的要求，以帮助自己做出更合理的决定。因此，我建议低年级学生在进入DP阶段之前仔细考虑未来的专业选择。 

I chose my DP courses very carefully by considering what I really enjoyand feel passionate about. Since I was pretty sure that I want to major in Business or Sociology, I chose Business and Economics without much hesitation. However, when I chose other courses, I consulted with teachers and researched about university entrance requirements to make a better decision. I recommend lower grade students to consider carefully about what they really want to study in the future before they choose DP courses.

你最喜欢世青哪一点？ 

What is your favourite thing about BWYA? 

我喜欢世青的方面不止一点。然而最让我欣喜的是这里的老师、同学，还有自我成长的机会。初入世青时，我是一个非常害羞胆怯的人。然而，学校为我们的发展提供了各种优秀的平台——比如课后俱乐部、舞台剧表演、校体育队、文艺汇演、学生会等等。我很高兴自己有机会参与其中，而这些美好的经历也让我成长为一个更自信的人。 

There are several things that i really like about our school -- in particular, the people and the opportunities for students to grow. When i first came to BWYA, I was very shy, and i was afraid to step up. But the opportunities that BWYA provided me -- the clubs, the musical, the sports team, the Wolves Talent Show, student council -- all these experiences allowed me to develop into a more confident person.
