Kunshan has been described by many as Shanghai’s backyard. After moving to Kunshan from Shanghai over a year ago, I can see how it can be likened to a backyard with its lushness, ample parks and many green places to explore. This environment is perfect for our preschool, which has around 8000 square metres of outdoor space for our young learners. 

许多人把昆山比作上海的后花园。当一年多前从上海搬到昆山后，这里繁茂的植被，充裕的公园和许多值得探索的绿地，让我明白了后花园的比喻从何而来。有着占地约8000 平方米的户外空间供我们小小的学习者使用，这样的环境对我们幼儿园来说再合适不过了。

Growing up in Australia with a large backyard and a treehouse, complete with a drop-down ladder and enough room for a tea party for two, felt somewhat magical. In a way, our preschool can be likened to a treehouse. It is a place where children can thrive in an environment built only for them, a place that cultivates this special time in their lives, and a place where children can imagine, create and represent their ideas in multiple ways. The most important part of any preschool is the children, so it was lovely to welcome back virtually all of our founding families and many new ones who joined our warm community at the beginning of September.

在澳大利亚长大的我，家里有一个很大的后院和一个树屋，树屋里有一个下拉式梯子和可容纳两人茶会的空间，感觉有点神奇。在某种程度上，我们的幼儿园就好比一个树屋。在这里，孩子们可以在专门为他们打造的环境中茁壮成长；在这里，可以培育他们生命中的这段特殊时光；在这里，孩子们可以以多种方式去想象、去创造、去表达。对任何幼儿园来说，最重要的部分都是孩子。因此，很高兴在九月初欢迎我们几乎所有创校家庭的回归，也欢迎许多新的家庭加入我们温暖的幼儿园社群。

Admittedly, magic is about transformation, and the year's start is always a humbling time full of transformation. The shaky hands that say goodbye to parents are soon replaced with eagerness, anticipation and joy. The child that walks in alone on the first day walks out with a friend at the day's end. The child that frowns on the first day beams with a smile on the next. These are all magical moments of transformation!

显然，魔法是关于转变的，而一年的开始总是一个充满转变的崭新时刻。看着颤抖着小手与父母道别的样子很快就被热切、期待和喜悦所取代，看着第一天独自走进幼儿园的孩子在一天结束时会和朋友一起出来，看着第一天皱着眉头的孩子第二天就露出笑容，这都是神奇的转变时刻啊！

While it is always a delight to see such transformation, the little details always pull at the heartstrings. A father breathing out a sigh of relief upon seeing his two-year-old son leave school happy after a full day at preschool, or a child sitting in between her English and Chinese teacher looking so comfortable – such moments are a privilege to see. It is something that makes our job not just a job but a way of life. 

虽然这样的转变总是令人动容，但小细节更是牵动人心：一位父亲看到他两岁的儿子在幼儿园度过一天开心地离开学校后如释重负地松了一口气，亦或是一个孩子自在地坐在中文和英文老师之间——能够看到这样的瞬间，我备感荣幸，它使我们的工作不仅仅是一份工作而已，更是一种生活方式。

The school-wide focus this year is on telling stories. Most stories do not start with a transformation; that is normally saved for later in the book. However, at Huaer Collegiate Preschool, we dare to tell a different story, so it is only fitting that ours begins with magic.

我们整个学校今年的主题是讲述故事。大多数的故事都不是从一个转变开始的，它通常会在一本书的后半部分才提及。然而，在华二昆山幼儿园，我们要讲述一个不同的故事。那么，这个故事从魔法开始就再合适不过了！
