First Library Class

新学年图书馆第一课

BIGZ Library Team has organized a variety of classes for students since the third week of September. In addition to providing weekly reading classes for ECE and Primary School students (PK2-G5), the library team also prepared other sessions based on research and creative projects. Faculty members are always welcome to reserve library sessions based on their teaching plans. 

从开学第三周起，图书馆阅读课正式开放。根据学校课程安排，图书馆每周向幼儿部和小学部学生（PK2-G5）开设阅读课，其他年级或其他科目的教师也会根据教学需要预约图书馆课。高年级教师除了预约阅读课之外，还可以预约科研项目课、创意项目课等。

In the first library class given to our lower grade students at the Primary Library, BIGZ librarians not only helped them understand the rules and etiquette of the library, but also introduced how to check in and check out books. Students couldn’t wait to start their library adventure after their first library class!

为了让低年级学生快速了解和使用图书馆，图书馆老师设计了有针对性的第一堂图书馆介绍课。在低幼年级图书馆，孩子们主要了解了图书馆的规章制度和礼仪行为，并熟悉了阅览室的借阅流程。“现在请开始你的图书馆探索之旅吧！”图书馆的介绍刚刚结束，孩子们就迫不及待地开始了自己的寻书之旅！

The library team also launched an information session to our 4th and 5th graders at the Main Library, helping them get familiar with the library classification, collection locations, online book search, leveled reading and book acquisition. The information session enabled students to understand the “magic” of information retrieval, making the search desks popular destinations to students. 

在中高年级图书馆，图书馆老师则为四、五年级的学生着重介绍了馆藏图书分类、分级阅读及标识、馆藏书目在线检索、馆藏分布与图书获取。信息量满满的图书馆第一课为学生打开了信息检索的大门，图书馆的公共检索台也成为学生的“宠儿”。

With guidance from the library team, students have learned how to select appropriate and interesting books based on their Lexile level and how to locate books on the shelves according to the call numbers.  Happy reading to our young readers!

在实际操作中，学生逐渐学会根据自己的蓝思阅读水平挑选合适的图书阅读，他们也能够根据系统显示的索书号在架上找到对应的书籍。在图书馆老师的协助和指引下，学生纷纷找到了自己心仪的图书。祝小读者们阅读愉快！

EBSCO Database Training

让学生研究更上一层楼

——EBSCO数据库培训

On September 17th, Ms. Keira Wu, our librarian, gave the first EBSCO database training to G11 students at the Post-AP English class. The training focused on equipping our upperclassmen with knowledge and skills to search the most cutting-edge and reliable resources and helping them develop the digital literacy. Effective utilization of this tool will serve students well as they continue their education at college. 

9月17日上午，图书馆老师Ms. Keira为11年级的Post-AP English课堂带来了第一场EBSCO数据库培训。本次培训旨在引导高年级学生检索最前沿和可靠的研究资源，培养严谨的科研素养和信息素养，也为学生提前熟悉大学研究做好准备。

Not only did Ms. Keira introduce the strengths of each database, but she also demonstrated how to use databases efficiently with specific examples. Students were also excited to learn the concept of Bibliometrics, which refers to the use of statistical methods to quantitatively analyze the impact of scientific articles and journals. Further research on Bibliometrics is also encouraged for interested students. 

Ms. Keira不仅介绍了每个数据库的优势资源，也向学生展示了如何高效使用数据库。此外，面对海量文献，Ms. Keira还引入了“文献计量”这一进阶方法辅助文献影响力评估。有兴趣的学生可以继续深入探索。

Ms. Charlene Schalkwyk highly commended the library team’s efforts to organize the training, considering it to be relevant and inspiring for students to explore the potential of the database. We look forward to further embedding its use in our classes at BIGZ!
