Hi, here is your candy! Happy Halloween!
At the end of every year’s October, it’s the Halloween. Maple Leaf International School Shanghai has its tradition of calling at day as candy day since the Student Association sales and delivers candies.
Members in Student Association had meetings to discuss and prepare the candy day, including the packaging style of sugar paper and choices of candies, etc. After consideration and opinions from the students, they decided on several that students love to eat and a few Halloween-styled candies.
In order to complete the task efficiently, the Student Association divided their members into two groups, one group went to the junior high school, and the other group went to the high school for pre-sale of sweets. Many students were excited about this and actively participated in this event.
The purchaser would write his/her name, but if he does not want to reveal the name, initials or any kinds of code are also acceptable. Then the recipient’s name is needed. The largest box at the bottom is in hopes of to be filled with words or comments that the purchaser wants to say to the recipient. The buying and selling of candies is more like a special way to express our gratitude, and it is also a transfer of warmth between people.
The candies are wrapped in three different sorts of packages ---pumpkins, witches, and flying broomsticks. Three kinds of packages indicate three different types of candies, “Treat” one that with all good-flavored candies, “Trick” one with nasty and terrifying candies and insects in it, at last, the “Treat or Trick” one that with mysterious candies in it.
The Student Association can deliver the candies to anyone the purchaser wants to send, as long as they are in school, such as classmates, teachers or any other faculties. On the eve of Halloween, what the Chinese students and teachers received is a friendship, but for most foreign teachers, it probably a kind of nostalgia.
Buyers can also choose the type of candy they want to buy. People who receive the “Trick” type would see fried locusts, air-dried caterpillars or the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans in “Harry Potter”. However, whatever candy it is, the Student Association would put all kinds of interesting, Halloween-styled stickers in it.
On the Halloween eve, the Student Association packed all the candies and send these Halloween gifts to the recipients one by one, with a happy Halloween as their blessing.
On Halloween, students are allowed to wear their own clothes to create a Halloween atmosphere in the school. You can see all kinds of “strange” clothes on the road. Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, scary ghost, etc. Some students who do not wear clothes will also draw amazing makeup paintings, conspicuous surgical scars, red human blood vessels, bats and masks on their faces.
Finally, the Student Association wish everyone can have a wonderful Halloween and receive the candy!
