正确的坐姿:应保持“一尺、一拳、一寸” ,即眼睛与书本距离应约为一尺,胸前与课桌距离应约为一拳;

How to Improve Grade 1 Students’ English Reading and Writing Ability
Last week, Ms. Ali and Ms. Song, EML teachers in the Elementary School, brought an interesting workshop to first-grade parents.
In the workshop, what kind of messages did the two teachers deliver to the parents? What interesting moments of classroom learning did they share? Let's take a look together!
1. Standardize Writing Style
to Build a Solid Foundation
The first grade is a crucial year to develop good study habits and develop a solid foundation for the in-depth study of the second to fifth grades of elementary school.
In order to avoid scribbled handwriting and improper font structure in future writing exercises, students need to strengthen their writing skills in the first grade. So how can teachers and parents help the children improve in this aspect?
Correct sitting posture
Standardized pen holding posture
Students who have just entered the first grade have weak control with their finger muscle, and their strength is insufficient in stabilizing and moving the pencil. Parents can prepare a pencil grips to help the child hold the pencil better.
It is especially significant to help students train their fine motor skill as well as strengthen their ability in control of finger muscle.
Playing small Legos, dough and crafts such as scrunching tissue paper to make a collage can help improve children’s fine motor skill in coordination and flexibility
In this way, their writing ability will be strengthened, hence there is going to be a great improvement in the quality and speed of English writing. They will also show more confidence in English classes.
2. Accompany Reading
to Inspire
Imagination and Creativity
Dehong pays great attention to cultivating students' reading ability. In the reading corner of the Oxford Tree on each floor, all picture books are labeled with various colors in the upper left corner, and different colors represent different reading levels. We encourage students who are reading yellow level books to work towards the blue level. What’s more, students can also go to the library to borrow English books, which are changed every two weeks.
In the EML class, after finishing reading a picture book, the teacher will also assign some small extended tasks to the students to help them understand the content of the story and open up their thinking. We also encourage parents to accompany their children to read. The picture books are delicate and rich in content. The story content on each page is a three-dimensional scene, which inspires children's imagination and creativity.
3. Learn Phonics
to Improve
English Reading Ability
In the EML class, students are learning the pronunciation patterns of different letter combinations. Grade 1 children start learning simple CVC words, later they try to write words in CCVC or CVCC structure and use punctuation and high-frequency vocabulary to write their own sentences.
Once students have mastered the laws of natural spelling, they will acquire the ability to decode and spell unfamiliar words, combine them with the usual listening and speaking vocabulary, and then use pictures and context to understand the meaning of the reading content. When parents are telling stories, if they encounter words that children can't read, they can also try to take him to explore the pronunciation of different letter combinations in the words, and gradually decipher the accurate pronunciation of rare words.
