Although I had been studying in another school in Shenzhen, it was still intimidating to join a new school to start all over again where the environment was again “foreign” and different. As my first language in Singapore was English,  I still had language barrier and I had still have not got used to the cultural differences in China. I was hesitant to communicate and interact with the people around me.
虽然我曾经在深圳的一所学校学习过一段时间，但当我决定转入广东碧桂园学校这所新学校，在这个陌生的环境中重新开始时，我的内心是恐惧的。因为我的母语是英语，语言障碍和文化差异让我彷徨于要怎样和周围的人进行沟通交流。

However, upon entering Guangdong Country Garden School (GCGS), the school made me feel welcomed. The school made me feel comfortable. The school made me feel confident. I feel that the most important part of an excellent school is making a student, regardless of nationality or religion, feel at ease. That was exactly what GCGS did; it made me feel that I was part of an amazing community of students; It made me feel motivated to strive for the best and to aim for the stars. The school also helped me hone my will, cultivate my skills, and explore my potentials. In a word, it nurtured me to be the person I am today.
但当我进入广东碧桂园学校后，我感受到的，是在这所学校里，我是受欢迎的，是舒服自在的，是满怀信心的。我觉得这就是一所名校最重要的魅力， 它可以让一个学生，无论国籍或宗教，感到自在舒适。广东碧桂园学校就是这样一所学校，它让我觉得我是优秀学生群体中的一员，让我备受鼓舞，立志去追求远大的目标，实现自己的梦想。同时，也帮助我磨炼意志，提升技能，挖掘潜力。它培养了我，也塑造了我。

In school, my teachers and friends were like a lighthouse on the shore, guiding me to safety amidst the darkness. Saying that I am grateful towards the school and the people here is an understatement. It is a feeling that words are not able to describe. Throughout these two years, I learned to be more disciplined, to be more effective and efficient in my studies. Learning the importance of teamwork and collaborative effort was also an integral part that the school played in maturing my ability to connect with people. In addition, the school’s methods of encouraging teamwork had allowed me to feel more confident and comfortable when cooperating with others. All in all, the environment that the school provided was beneficial to every single student, me included.

在学校里，老师们和朋友们就像岸上的灯塔，引领我走出黑暗。心存感激这四个字远远不足以形容我对学校、老师和同学们的情感，这是一种无法用语言描述的感觉。在广东碧桂园学校学习的两年里，我学会了更加自律、高效地学习，也懂得如何成熟地与人交往。而学校鼓励团队合作的理念，也让我明白了团队合作的重要性，让我在与人合作时更加得心应手，信心十足。

    In the short but sweet two years in GCGS, participating in extracurricular activities, be it school-organized or student-organized, was also integral in my personal growth. China Week, for example, really made me appreciate and realize how fortunate each and every one of us are.  Sports-related activities such as volleyball and basketball improved my court vision and teamwork. Societal-related activities such as environmental club boosted my environmental and social awareness. These activities helped me become more informed about things in everyday life that poses detrimental threats to Earth. Simply put, it made me see the bigger picture. 

在GCGS的两年时光里，我积极参加了很多课外活动，有的是学校组织的，有的是学生组织的，这些都成为了我成长旅程中不可或缺的一部分。例如“中国周”活动让我意识到我们每一个人是多么幸运；排球、篮球等运动拓宽了我的全场视野，提升了我的团队精神；环保俱乐部等社会活动增强了我的环保意识和社会责任感。我的认知视野，在GCGS不断拓宽。

As a member of IBDP’s Activity Division, our aim was to instil the mindset of cooperation amongst our peers so that we could strive as one. That was the reason why the activities were organised with class participation in mind. The feedback received was incredible. The mentality of working together and helping peers move towards a common goal was present in every single one of us. When I needed help, be it in studies or in other matters, my peers would always be there to support and help me. Two years in GCGS really flies, but in this amazing school, I have learned the most important qualities that will even benefit me in my whole life: the sense of determination and the importance of teamwork. Together as a team, we could do wonders and impact the lives of people around us. Together, we helped each other get better. Together, we moved forward towards the goal of getting satisfactory results. 我还成为了学生会活动部的一员，设计组织了很多以班级为单位的团体活动。这些活动旨在提升同学们的团结协作精神和集体荣誉感，最后也取到了很好的效果。

我和我的同伴们都怀着共同努力和互助前行的心态，一起前进。当我需要帮助时，无论是在学习还是在其他方面，我的同伴们都愿意支持和帮助我。作为一个团队，我们可以创造奇迹；作为单独的个体，我们可以帮助他人成为更好的自己。只要我们在一起，就可以一起手牵手走向成功。

There were so many learning contents to comprehend in IBDP program. All the Internal Assessments, Individual Orals, Extended Essays and TOK that we had to complete in a tight time frame, coupled with the tasks of applying to universities all around the world. It was simply insane.

IBDP项目有很多需要理解的学习内容，我们必须在很紧张的学习时间内完成所有的内部评估、个人口试、扩展论文、TOK、大学申请任务，现在回想起那段时光，都觉得疯狂。

On top of all these, I tend to procrastinate - to only complete assignments when the final deadlines were around the corner. As the deadlines for the assignments and the IBDP inched closer and closer with each passing day, I finally made the decision to create and set a timetable that could allow me to complete my assignments and study for the exam. 在高强度的学习中，我觉得时间管理是十分重要的。我有严重的拖延症，总在最后期限临近时才完成任务。但随着学习任务量的增多，我意识到这是不行的，便决定制作时间表，来督促自己能够按时完成学习任务并且积极准备考试。 Today, I managed to get into universities that, back in 2019 before I stepped in to Guangdong Country Garden School, I could only dream of getting into. Being offered places in University College London, King’s College London, Hong Kong University and most surprisingly, the National University of Singapore made me feel a sense of accomplishment so powerful that I broke down in tears, tears of joy. 

如今，我成功地被我梦想中的大学录取，这在我踏入广东碧桂园学校之前，是不敢去想的。当我收到伦敦大学学院、伦敦国王学院、香港大学，以及最令人惊讶的新加坡国立大学录取通知时，一种强烈的成就感让我热泪盈眶。

When the results were finally released, I was ecstatic and overwhelmed that my perseverance and hard work had paid off. All the blood, sweat and tears that I had endured for the past two years had not been futile. I had succeeded in thrusting myself into the next chapter in life.

当结果最终公布时，我欣喜若狂，因为我的坚持和努力终于得到了回报，这两年来，我的付出都没有白费。我成功地进入了新的人生篇章。

 
The motivation and the encouragement that I received from my family, teachers and friends played a key part in my high school journey. I am extremely thankful to all my subject teachers as they all had been extremely patient with my queries and questions. Regardless of when I asked questions, they would always respond to me as soon as possible with a detailed explanation or evaluation to the questions inquired. In addition, they also sacrificed their own recreation breaks to tutor and explain the mistakes that I had made, especially so when I had huge problems with my IA. Their patience and the belief and hope in me were reasons that really pushed me to do the best that I could. I did not want to undo all the hard work that they have put in for me.

在我的高中生活中，家人、老师和朋友们对我的鼓励至关重要。我非常感谢我所有的学科老师，因为他们对我都非常耐心。无论我什么时候询问，他们总是会第一时间回复我，为我答疑解惑。他们还牺牲了自己的休息时间来辅导我，特别是当我的IA出现很大问题时。他们的耐心、对我的信任和期望是推动我努力做到最好的原因，因为我不想让他们为我所做的一切都付诸东流。

 
As for my parents, they have also played a paramount role in my progress during high school. First and foremost, their decision to bring me to China to pursue my tertiary education was the turning point of my schooling life. The change in environment caused me to re-evaluate myself and readjust to the new and foreign conditions. It made me return to reality and realize that I could not continue failing in my subjects. Throughout the 4 years here, they have constantly been by my side, motivating and pushing me to do my best in every step of the way. Their belief that I could do well was immensely powerful. It made me want to succeed on my own accord. It made me want to work hard. It made me more self-aware of my studies. The countless amount of “couch talks” we had when every single one of us voiced out our views and discussed was so valuable. Their love for me was evident; they were always there to guide me throughout this journey and provided for me unconditionally in times of need. 同时，我也非常感激我的父母，他们带我到中国接受高中教育的决定，是我学习生涯的重要转折点。环境的变化使我重新评估自己，重新适应新的生活。在中国的4年里，他们一直陪伴在我身边，他们始终坚信我能够做得更好。为了激发我的斗志，为了让我对自己的学习有更加清晰的自我认知，他们和我进行了无数次“沙发谈话”。“沙发谈话”中每个人都畅所欲言，大胆说出了自己的观点并进行了讨论，对我来说，这是非常珍贵的亲子交流。他们对我的爱无微不至，让我毫无畏惧地大步向前，也在我需要帮助时，无条件地对我伸出援手。

           
I guess it was a mix of everything mentioned above that made me become the person I am today. I am by no means the top student. I am by no means perfect, but I have tried, and I have left it all on the table during my two years in the IBDP program.Be yourself, and strive for the best, because good things are always just around the corner.

我想，正是上述种种因素成就了今天的我。我绝不是最优秀的学生，也绝不是完美的学生，但在GCGS短暂的两年里，我尝试过，也努力过。做自己，争取做最好的自己，因为美好的事情总会在转角。
