近期，为了帮助一年级家长更好地了解英语学习，Shanna Hughes老师和Polley Huang老师为家长带来了一场沉浸式的工作坊。本次工作坊，我们选取了英语学习中的重要组成部分——阅读和写作，向家长展示了我们如何帮助一年级的学生打下坚实的英语阅读和写作的基础。

阅读-语言学习的基础

英文阅读是学习英语这门语言的重要组成部分，阅读不仅可以帮助学生掌握语法和词汇，提高写作能力和水平，还可以探究自己感兴趣的话题和故事。

英文的自然拼读

自然拼读，是开启英语阅读大门的钥匙，是英语阅读的工具。今年，我们进行了自然拼读的分组学习。老师会根据学生的英语基础提供更有针对性的帮助和支持。

学生一旦掌握了自然拼读的规律，面对生词时，也能根据之前的单词积累把新单词拼读出，再根据上下文和图片信息，理解这个单词的含义，让阅读变得更有趣。

科学的阅读计划

德闳十分注重培养学生的阅读能力。我们会根据学生每个阶段的阅读能力推荐适合他们的读物。在牛津树阅读角里，所有绘本的左上角都贴有标签，不同的颜色代表着不同的阅读等级。除此之外，学生还可以去图书馆借阅英文书籍。学生读过哪些书籍，都会记录在他们的“德闳阅读日志”上，老师可以更清楚地了解他们的阅读进度和水平，帮助他们科学地制定阅读计划。

我们鼓励家长在家中陪伴孩子阅读，培养和巩固孩子良好的阅读习惯：

1、每天陪伴孩子阅读20分钟

2、带着丰富的情感阅读

3、和孩子讨论阅读的内容

对于一年级的学生来说，绘本是激发他们阅读兴趣的最好读物。有趣的情节和生动的画面能吸引他们的注意力，简单的文字留下了无限想象的空间，适当的引导还能培养孩子们的想象力和创造力。

正确的书写姿势

写字是一项基本技能，从一年级开始就应该打好书写的基础。在德闳的课堂上，老师通过训练学生端正的写字姿势、正确的执笔方法，来培养他们良好的写字习惯。

除了课堂上的训练，老师还会借助玩乐高、捏面团、做拼贴画、制作粘土等等小游戏，提高学生动作的协调性和灵活性，从而有效地强化他们的运笔能力。

递进的写作过程

在正式开始写作之前，老师会先通过学生完成的“小任务”了解他们对于该写作主题的认识。老师也可从中看到在接下来写作任务中学生需要的支持，从而进行更有针对性的引导和帮助。

德闳现在的写作教学模式分为三个阶段：

1、“模仿”：阅读已有故事，学生根据自己的理解，模仿并写出新的故事；

2、“创新”：根据老师提供的故事框架，学生加入自己创作的故事情节，写出新的故事；

3、“发明”：故事情节和结构都由学生独创，老师提供适当的帮助。

创作不仅是为了激发学生的创造力和想象力，也是希望在写作过程中，加深他们对于书面语言结构和要素的了解，不断提高他们的写作能力。

探究式教学

除了通过阅读和写作打下扎实的语言基础，在小学部英文媒介学习（EML）课堂上，我们采用探究式教学方法（Inquiry-based Learning），学生在英语探究课上会接触到不同的学习单元和话题。通过研究、讨论、探索和实践，激发学生的好奇心和求知欲，并在不断提高探究能力的同时，全方位的提升他们的英语能力。

例如，在一年级第四单元—“太空”单元的学习中，老师会带领学生探索星球、太空、地球资源等各方面知识点，让学生逐步意识到环境保护的重要性，通过SEEI（我看到、我听到、我认为）来表达自己的观点（小学部EML课堂 | 激发好奇心和求知欲，勇于探索未知世界）。而在这个过程中，学生的知识量、英文词汇量以及探究能力都得到了提高。

我们从一年级开始就十分注重对学生英语阅读和写作能力的培养，帮助学生打下扎实的语言功底。

在英语学习过程中，每个学生进度有所不同，我们会安排EAL (English as an Additional Language)老师进行小组教学，有效地解答学生遇到的问题，保证每个孩子都能够得到支持。我们希望帮助学生在英语学习中不断进步，树立自信心。

通过在英文媒介学习(EML)的课堂上循序渐进的探究式学习，学生的英语能力不断提高，想象力、创新思维、辩证思维和逻辑思维等也得到持续提升。

Parents Work Shop - How Dehong Help Grade 1 Students Build a Solid Foundation in English Reading and Writing?

Recently, Ms. Shanna Hughes and Ms. Polley Huang, EML teachers at Elementary School, brought an interesting workshop regarding improving Grade 1 students’ English reading and writing skills (improtant parts of English learning) to parents.

The Foundation Of Language Learning

Reading is an important part of learning the language. Reading not only helps students to improve their skills and proficiency in areas such as grammar, vocabulary, and writing, but also allows them to explore the topics and stories of their own preference.

Learning Phonics 

This year, we have tailored phonics groupings. This structure of phonics learning allows for a more targeted instruction which supports us in better meeting the needs of the students.

Once students have mastered the phonics, they will acquire the ability to decode and spell unfamiliar words, combine them with the usual listening and speaking vocabulary, and then use pictures and context to understand the meaning of the reading content.

Scientific Reading Plan

Dehong pays great attention to cultivating students' reading skills. In the reading corner of the Oxford Tree, all picture books are labeled with various colors in the upper left corner, and different colors represent different reading levels. The books that students have read are recorded in their ‘Dehong Daily Reading Records’, which helps teachers to understand their level of reading and progress through time, so that teachers can provide support and arrange reading tasks scientifically.

We encourage parents to accompany their children to read when they are at home, and to help cultivate and consolidate children’s good reading habits.

For Grade 1 students, picture books are the best books to stimulate their interest in reading. Interesting plots and vivid pictures can attract their attention. Simple words leave unlimited room for imagination. Appropriate guidance can also inspire children's imagination and creativity.

Standardize Writing Style

In the classroom, we teach students how to write printed letters and develop good writing habits. Playing Legos, dough, and crafts such as scrunching tissue paper to make a collage can help improve children’s fine motor skill in coordination and flexibility.

Learn to Write Step by Step

Before getting into the writing unit, the teachers ask students to write down all their understanding of the topic of writing. This allows the teacher to see which areas the students need the most support and provide tailored guidance then.

Talk for Writing is an approach to teaching writing that includes three stages: 'imitation' (where students learn and internalise texts, to identify transferrable ideas and structures), 'innovation' (where students use these ideas and structures to create new versions with their teachers), and 'invention' (where teachers help students to create original texts independently). These tasks aim to improve writing skills by giving students an understanding of the structure and elements of written language.

Inquiry-based Learning Method

From Grade 1, we adopt an inquiry-based learning method. In the EML classes,  through research, discussion, exploration and practice in different learning units and topics, we stimulate students' curiosity and help broaden their horizons. While continuously improving students' inquiry ability, we also help improve their English ability at the same time.

In addition, for students who are English beginners or have difficulties in learning the language, we have EAL (English as an Additional Language) teachers and small groups will be set to ensure that each child is well supported and we will try to help them improve their English level and build up their self-confidence.

We place great emphasis on developing students' English reading and writing skills, helping them to lay a good foundation. Through our structured learning mechanism, the skills of students' imagination, creative thinking, dialectical thinking, and logical thinking will be improved continuously.
